What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. During this blessed month, Muslims around the world observe fast during the daylight hours and abstain from drink, food, and other physical needs. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam. During this blessed month Muslims observe strict fast and spend most of their time to worship Allah, reading Quran and asking Allah for forgiveness of sins. Also during this month people will strengthen their ties with family and friends. Ramadan is a time to purify the soul, practice self-discipline and sacrifice.

Eid ul adha is one of the two most important festivals in Islamic calendar. As per the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid ul Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hajj.

Since Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, the date of Eid ul Adha may vary from country to country based on the sighting of moon. In international (Gregorian) calendar, the dates vary from year to year drifting approximately 11 days earlier each year.
